Title: SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Supervising Coordinator
Appointment: Full-time, Extension Program Associate 3, Supv (7316A3), Civil Service

Office Location: This is a statewide position. Office location to be determined based on candidate selected (It will be located at one of 15 regional office locations.); Hybrid work options available.
Salary Range: $27.50 - $33.70/hour; depending on qualifications

Extensionâ™s Family, Health and Wellbeing Department is in need of a SNAP-Ed Health & Wellness Supervising Coordinator who will focus on providing supervision to the SuperShelf team. SuperShelf is a multilayered intervention for creating healthier environments with Minnesotaâ™s food shelves. This is a statewide position and reports to the SNAP-Ed Associate Program Director. The person in this position will lead a team of six to ten SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators known as SuperShelf Co-leads, who are responsible for SuperShelf implementation and fulfilling the commitment to the grant by promoting and improving individual and community health by promoting healthy eating behaviors and physical activity in low-income communities.
One significant effort within the Health and Nutrition program area is the administration of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) grant. This position is charged with the implementation and management of the SNAP-Ed program. Using grant dollars, coordinators work throughout the state to make the healthy choice the easy choice for Minnesotans with limited financial resources. RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision of Program Staff (45%)
- Hire, develop, and evaluate the talent needed to support critical SNAP-Ed program goals and priorities.
- Supervise the day-to-day work of multiple SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators implementing SuperShelf and other projects, adjusting the teamâ™s work as needed to maximize efficiencies and impacts. Provide SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators with clear performance expectations with timely, actionable, and constructive feedback and coaching.
- Conduct ongoing performance management of SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators through record and report monitoring, teaching observations, run individual and team meetings.
- Observe, monitor, direct, and coach to ensure that SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators meet performance expectations to:
- Deliver engaging, effective, and adaptive quality programs to the priority audience.
- Collect and secure participant-level paperwork regarding demographic info, eligibility, attendance, assessment, and program evaluation.
- Record participant data and course outcomes in the database.
- Follow budgetary guidelines and procedures regarding travel, programming supplies, and other financial considerations.
- Provide SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators with the resources, information, authority, and support needed for program delivery.
- Working with the SNAP-Ed Associate Program Director, develop and implement training for SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators on content, approved curricula and programs, effective teaching and delivery methods, program reporting and evaluation methods, and other procedures and protocols.
- Ensure SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, ethics, and integrity, including consistently following through on commitments and taking ownership for the performance of the team.
- Provide leadership to the statewide SuperShelf project and other projects that benefit SNAP-Ed.
- Help SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators understand how their work connects to broader SNAP-Ed state goals and recognize staff programming contributions.
Program Management 35%
- Work closely with assigned Extension Educator and SuperShelf Statewide Coordinator to manage the SuperShelf project, and other projects as assigned
- Oversee the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of SuperShelf and other SNAP-Ed programming
- Manage and monitor the budget and data collection for projects and programs.
- Analyze programmatic data and financial information to determine ways to better focus resources for effectively and efficiently reaching low-income Minnesotans, and people with health disparities in the region.
- Identify potential opportunities for program development and improved programmatic impact by exploring gaps in the prevention spectrum of health and nutrition-related community programs and initiatives and feeding leads to SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators.
- Collaborate with other Extension personnel regionally and statewide to enhance program delivery through coordination and sharing of programmatic activities, success stories, resources, formative research, and program evaluation information.
- Oversee and coordinate the development and implementation of partner level agreements in the region.
- Provide guidance to community-based organizations on the technical aspects of the federal SNAP Education program.
- Train and manage the established reporting protocols and evaluation plans that are implemented by SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators.
- Take action to better understand community health and nutrition issues, public health approaches, and new research and strategies in order to guide SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators in translating this knowledge into programmatic efforts.
Community Engagement (20%)
- Maintain professional internal and external communications by seeking, analyzing, and synthesizing feedback from SNAP-Ed Health and Wellness Coordinators on participant and community concerns, program implementation, curricula, and other resources to improve the quality and efficiency in the program and better meet the needs of SNAP-Ed participants.
- Maintain a sound understanding of, and familiarity with, community demographics, key partners and stakeholders such as local health and human services, food shelves and hunger relief agencies, and county health and nutrition initiatives.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with community members, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Build sustainable relationships with local agencies serving the target population, working to establish recruitment and teaching opportunities for coordinators, as well as opportunities to utilize public health approaches to promote policy, system, and environmental changes.
- Build and sustain organizational and community support for SNAP-Ed programming.
- Represent Extension and federal SNAP-Ed in a professional manner, providing informed support and expertise when serving on agency or community boards or advisory committees related to health and nutrition.
Other Responsibilities Assigned as Needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelorâ™s degree in health, nutrition, or a closely related discipline, and 4 years of related experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience to total eight 8 years.
- 3 years of experience coordinating health, human service, or nutrition-related educational programs, community organizing or community health promotion.
- 1 year of experience supervising non-student professionals, including training, managing performance, coaching, and team building.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing public health approaches to promote policy, system, and environmental changes related to health and/or nutrition programming.
- Demonstrated experience in transforming a food shelf to a SuperShelf .
- Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, problem-solving, and successfully completing multiple tasks under pressure of a deadline.
- Demonstrated experience working together with communities of color, immigrant communities, those living with limited income, and/or historically marginalized populations experiencing health inequities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with the Microsoft and Google application suites; and the ability to lead as well as actively participate in web-based communication and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driverâ™s license and own means of transportation with required liability insurance, to be utilized for frequent travel (up to 300 - 600 miles per week) within Minnesota, and approximately 2-4 overnight stays per month.
- When not in the assigned office location, employees must be reachable with a mobile number at the employee's own expense.
- Must be able to work regularly at a dedicated/assigned Extension office and must have reliable internet if/when working outside of the office.
- Must be able to travel within the designated communities and provide in-person programming.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evening or weekend work, to meet the special needs of SNAP-Ed program management.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum weight of 30 lbs.
- Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience overseeing grants or contracts, and/or enforcing budgetary and reporting requirements, financial policies, and procedures.
- Experience using distance technologies and social media to market and deliver educational programming.
- Experience managing a program that serves individuals experiencing issues and challenges related to living on a limited income.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ongoing commitment to decreasing health disparities.
- Experience supervising a team conducting health related education
