Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Captain functions as a lead in supervising and training Incarcerated firefighters in all aspects of first aid, fire prevention, rescue, equipment operation and maintenance. Incumbent is expected to have thorough knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and practices that impact their ability to perform the duties assigned. Duties can be reassigned for the well-being and efficient operation of the Fire Department and the Institution.

High Desert State Prison is located approximately eight miles east of the town of Susanville, or about a 1 hour 30-minute drive northwest of Reno, Nevada.

Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
