Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, the Environmental Manager may be based in our Arlington, Virginia headquarters. For this role, Energix, is seeking an experienced environmental management professional with a background in NEPA review, CWA, Permit by Rule (PBR), Phase I ESA’s, due diligence reviews, SWPPP’s and other environmental survey activities in support of our utility-scale solar pipeline. This role will work with other departments such as Origination, Development, Engineering, Construction, and Finance across the full project life cycle located in the PJM market.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Gather relevant desktop and field data from third-party consultants as required and/or as appropriate in order to analyze potential environmental impacts of a project (included but not limited to wetlands, cultural, threatened and endangered species, and brownfields)

Evaluate local, state, and federal regulations that are required prior to construction

Attend site reviews with the engineering and construction team as needed

Assist with environmental aspects during the zoning permitting process and attend zoning hearings as needed

Manage a network of external consultants including schedules and budgets

Conduct due diligence reviews for greenfield and project acquisition opportunities

Support environmental compliance during construction

Build effective relationships with regulators and stakeholders

Technical Skills & Expertise

• Demonstrated experience in leading environmental permitting activities
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related field (Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the energy sector or consulting field with a focus on environmental permitting; familiarity with solar projects preferred
• Professional Wetland Scientist credential preferred with experience preforming wetland and stream delineations
• Experience with ArcGIS preferred
• Experience in habitat assessments for rare, threatened, and endangered species relating to wetlands, streams, and corresponding upland habitats
• Strong technical communication skills for complex project reports
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change

Willing and able to travel up to 25% to project sites and agency meetings.
