Job Description

Assistant Controls Manager

A leading systems integrator in advanced robotics and automation is seeking an Assistant Controls Manager to join their growing team. This organization specializes in assembly, machine tending, dispensing, deburring, and machine vision, serving industries such as automotive, heavy truck, and general manufacturing.

This is a new position created to support the rapid growth of the Automation Engineering Services Division, which provides contract engineering services focused on PLC and robotics support. The division is currently supported by the Systems Division, creating an increased workload for the existing Controls Manager. The Assistant Controls Manager will play a key role in managing operations, acting as a technical lead, and supervising the engineering services team.

The Assistant Controls Manager will report to the Controls Manager and collaborate regularly with the Director of Automation Engineering Services.

As Assistant Controls Manager, the candidate will:

  • Develop expertise in controls architectures, hardware, and software, with a focus on PLCs, robotics, and related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Assess project requirements and identify the appropriate personnel and skillsets for successful completion.
  • Coordinate project schedules and manage workloads efficiently.
  • Interface directly with customers to ensure excellent service and maintain strong relationships.
  • Provide leadership and support to the engineering team.
  • Apply basic project management skills to ensure on-time and high-quality project delivery.
  • Conduct interviews and hire talent to build and enhance the team.

The long-term goal is to help establish the Automation Engineering Services Division as a fully staffed, independent unit, reducing reliance on the Systems Division while maintaining collaborative efforts where needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Associate’s degree with relevant experience also considered).
  • Experience with motion controls, robotics, and automation systems.
  • Proficiency in programming PLC systems (Rockwell and Siemens preferred) or robotics (Fanuc).
  • Competency with CAD software (AutoCAD, ePlan) and MS Office applications.
  • Strong managerial and supervisory skills with experience leading teams.
  • Excellent time management skills to handle multiple priorities effectively.

Additional Skills:

  • Comfortable with direct customer interactions and managing expectations.
  • Ability to create and coordinate project schedules across multiple teams.
  • Basic project management knowledge to track and deliver tasks successfully.
  • Proven ability to identify and recruit skilled talent.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced controls professional to step into a leadership role within a thriving team. If you are ready to apply your technical expertise and management skills in a growing environment, we encourage you to apply today!
